People ask us all the time, "How does acupuncture work?"
It stimulates your body's own healing and regulating processes
It has been demonstrated to have the following effects:
Down-regulates pain mechanisms
Releases pain relieving and mood elevating chemicals (such as endorphins)
You may be wondering, "What conditions does it work for?"
The most common use for acupuncture is for pain conditions, which we specialize in, but it has been shown to have therapeutic benefit for 117 different conditions. You can read more about that here courtesy of EvidenceBasedAcupuncture.org.
Not sure if acupuncture is right for you?
Every person is different. Recognizing that simple fact is one of the things that makes acupuncture special. We know that not all people react the same. There will be some who see results nearly immediately and others that make take awhile. There are also a small percentage of folks that are non-responders to acupuncture for unknown reasons. You can't know unless you try!
WHAT TO EXPECT
We practice evidence-based medicine, therefore, your treatment plan will be based upon both available research studies for your condition, and the doctor’s clinical experience. It will consist of three phases of care:
Relief Care – When the initial complaint is focused upon in order to provide fast relief of symptoms. Treatments are typically more frequent during this phase (2-3 times per week). This phase generally lasts anywhere from one to four weeks depending upon the complexity and severity of symptoms.
Corrective Care – Where the underlying imbalances that led to the initial complaint are addressed in order to prevent relapse of symptoms. Treatments are less frequent during this phase (often just once per week).
Maintenance Care – Maintenance is relatively infrequent (anywhere from once per month to just a few visits per year) and focuses on optimizing health and wellness and/or preventing past symptoms from arising again.
At your initial consultation, our staff will review the doctor’s recommendation as well as go over your available insurance coverage (if applicable) and your estimated out of pocket investment. Payment plans are available for those without insurance coverage.
